Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Who can use the Hive?

The Hive is open to all members of the Georgia Tech community — students, faculty, and staff — regardless of major, year, or prior experience. You just need a valid GT BuzzCard to enter.

Do I need training to use the equipment?

Training is not required to use any equipment in the space. During our open hours, we have Peer Instructors who are trained on every machine who can guide you through usage.

Is there a cost to use the Hive?

Using the space and most equipment is free for current GT students, faculty, and staff.

How do I attend a workshop?

Workshop RSVPs are sent in the weekly newsletter every Monday morning. Subscribe via the link at the bottom of this page. Once you receive the newsletter, click the RSVP link for the workshop you want — spots fill quickly!

Workshops are free unless materials are needed (e.g., a soldering kit). Check the calendar for upcoming events.

How do I schedule a tour?

For individuals and small groups, walk-in tours are available anytime during open hours — just come in and ask a PI!

For large groups and organizations, email us at hive@ece.gatech.edu with:

  • Point of contact
  • Tour group size
  • Suggested dates
How do I collaborate with or host an event at the Hive?

The Hive loves hosting events and working with student organizations and companies. If you’d like to host an event or collaborate with us, contact us at hive@ece.gatech.edu.
